As a Students' Union we will support you as a Student Rep throughout the year, below is an overview of how we do this and how you can communicate with us.
Training
Introductory Training will be given to all Student Reps. This is over the course of just one day outlining education policy, responsibilities, how to get paid etc. All Student Reps must attend training in order to get paid. This session will initially be held at the start of the term but will be repeated later for anyone who misses this first session.
Blackboard
Blackboard is another form of media that can be used to communicate with students. On blackboard you can find the Student Reps Organisation containing several pages on the Student Rep scheme, Education policy and information. Student Reps who have not yet attended training can see PowerPoint presentations and training documents. This also provides a space for Reps to share best practice, concerns, and ideas amongst each other.
We now have an active page on Facebook to keep you informed about the Student Rep Scheme and how our campaigns are progressing. To have a look Click Here.
We will send out fortnightly e-mail briefings on Student Reps, what the Student’s Union is doing to improve education at Bucks, important dates and events and news.
Mentoring is a valuable part of being a Student Rep. Student Reps can drop into the students union for support and one on one meetings. This is a good chance to ask questions, attain knowledge on education policies and gain support when needed.
As your Elected President with a remit for Student Reps, Chris Clark, Vice President Educationm feels passionatley about the system and education...he remarks that “Representation is vital in education. Without representation the Union and the institution would make assumptions on student issues. We need input from grass root reps so that we do not use these assumptions to shape policy as it can lead us to drift away from the real issues affecting students. I also believe that without students in attendance at committees, issues can be passed over or perceived as less important when in actual fact they are deeply affecting students. I want to use the rep system as a means of consulting the membership about how their education can be better delivered. If teaching methods become stagnant I want our rep system to start a debate that will rejuvenate them, making your learning experience refreshing and exciting. I hope to implement a skills week that will allow students to not only broaden their skill range but enable them to make the transition from education to employment in a smoother fashion. I would like to do this in partnership with the university, reps and most importantly students to ensure that what is delivered in our lecture theatres is what students deem to be essential”.
